Why would I waste my money on a fancy running watch?
I hear variations of this question often from many of my running colleagues. Now I myself stay decked out in the latest running tech, because in my opinion, any edge that can get me to the finish line a little faster is worth the dollars spent.
There are so many benefits to using the new running watches on the market. People run for different reasons but if your running to lose weight, the main benefit for you is that most of the high end running watches will tell you how many calories you burn while exercising. Not to mention if you wear the watch all day you can track how many steps you’ve taken in a day and also how many calories you’ve burned by simply walking around.
If you are a serious runner like myself, there are way too many benefits to owning a running watch. In my opinion if you can’t call yourself a serious runner if you don’t wear one.
First of all you can track your workouts. So you can actually look on a map after your run to see where you went, and how fast you were going and how fast your pace was. For me I use this to try and push myself to get faster times consistently. I also take full advantage of the heart rate monitor.
When searching for the best smartwatch for running, it is important to not be fooled by tempting low quality products. There are tons of shitty companies that make low quality watches for running. They all usually have really cheap price tags and always look like great deals. The reality is that if you just spend the few extra bucks and get a good quality running watch, you’ll end up saving yourself money in the long run. Especially because you’ll end up with a good product that will last you a long time.
If you are looking for a good quality watch that comes with a reasonable price tag, in my opinion the best option would be my personal favorite running watch currently, the TomTom Runner Cardio Watch.
The reason I think this is one of the best watches for running is because it only costs 200$, and it also has all the features any runner needs. TomTom has done an amazing job at creating a watch that is both affordable but also has a heartbeat monitor, GPS for tracking your run, and also has many other great features.
The best part about this watch is that for the heart rate monitor, you don’t need to wear a chest strap. Yeah, that’s right. I said no chest strap. I am so used to wearing one, so not having to wear one on my runs has been a dream.
The navigation on this watch is also a really big selling point. It’s super easy to scroll through different apps. I am even able to use it will I’m running it’s so simple, which means my run is never interrupted.
The device is so simple a child could you use it. When your going for a run, all you have to do is press right, choose Run, press right and go. It’s that simple.
The battery life is also really impressive. I usually have to charge it once a week. If you run in the dark, I’ve noticed this really drains the battery because the screen light is much brighter at night.
In conclusion this watch is amazing and if your a typical runner like me you will love this watch.
