ACAT Speech Software
Stephen hawking is considered among the smartest people on this planet. He is also suffering from a debilitating disease that has left him to sit on the wheel chair and unable to speak. In these hard times on this person, Intel stepped to help him out and gave voice to Stephen hawking by using software that help him to speak instead of himself. That speech software developed by Intel is known as ACAT stands for Assistive Context Aware Toolkit.
For the past 20 years Intel has been building a relation of communication between Stephen Hawking and the world. Sai Prasad is the owner of ACAT’s project. And now the software is also used to write books, give speeches and talk to everybody. The good news is that now this software is available for free for the first time. Now anybody can use it.
An Open Source Software
An open source software is also the part of plan that given to the engineers, developers and researchers that they can use to create technology that improves the lives of patients with motor neuron disease and other conditions that make using typical computer interfaces impossible.
Right now ACAT uses webcam based face recognition in this software, but Intel says most of the work is have to done on this amazing software. This software is available for PC’s. Recently one installed in PC and try to type simple words by using face muscles and wait for the reply and response of ACAT. The system open the browser the web and gives users surprisingly cursor control.
“The main purpose of making this software able for free is to expand on this system by adding new user interfaces, new sensing modalities, word prediction and many other features.”
Right now Intel is testing this free version on different kind of patients. The software and the user guide for this software which includes advanced navigation techniques can be found on GitHub.
